Adding Heat to a Solid

Today, we did an experiment using crayons (solid) and heat.

Here's what happened:

Lilly said, "We turned on the hairdryer and let it blow on the crayons."
Grant said, "Some of the crayons melted so much that they slid out of the paper!"
Anoushka said, "When it melted, it made a cool design."
Jackson said, "The solid particles turned into liquid particles and changed their shape."
Emily said, "Science is REAL!"
Abby said, "Each time we applied heat, the particles moved farther apart!"
Sidney said, "When we took the heat away it turned back into a solid and it was so pretty!"

Our pledges total $940!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Just think of all the great field trips
this extra money can provide for our students!

This weekend we are issuing a special challenge. Visit funrun.com to see the bonus prize your child can earn

this weekend only.

If you’re looking for an easy way to ask for a pledge, upload a photo of your student to funrun.com to personalize their own Student Star video. It’s a fun movie trailer starring your child! You can share it on email or social media to ask for a pledge.

Thank you again for helping our class.

SCIENCE IS REAL!

Non-Newtonian Fluid

Today, we made Non-Newtonian Fluid!
We mixed:
4 tablespoons Cornstarch
and
2 tablespoons water

Ask your child these questions:
Did you make a solid?
Did you make a liquid?
What was your hypothesis?
Explain what happened when you made a
ball with the mixture!

Is "stupid" a bad word?

Sarah taught us something very important.
We ALL know never to call
another person "stupid"!
But what about saying, "that's a stupid book"?
What about saying, "my writing looks stupid"?

Sarah said,
"Stupid is not a bad word. It's a strong word
that children shouldn't use."

Well done, Sarah!

Another parody! Enjoy all of you Disney fans!

Top Soil Dance (Can you DIG it?)

Dear Friends,
If you want to really laugh, ask your
family to dance with you! Heee Heee!

"And we're learning about soil (soil)......."

We have REALLY loved this parody!
A "parody" is when someone
changes the words of a song.
We learned a lot from this song, too!
Just ask Evelyn!

Maureen is a good mom to Isabelle!

Maureen's grandmother sent her Christmas money to buy her American Girl
doll some new clothes!
I think she made good fashion choices!

Balloon-Blowing Victoria!

Wow!
Victoria was very busy before the holidays!
Look at the creations she made with balloons!
It must be lots of fun at her house!

Winston Wu, We Love You!

Mr. Wu loves coming up with science experiments
for Winston and his sister!
Here's one about matter and Non-Newtonian Fluid!

Don't forget!  SCIENCE IS REAL!

Missing In Action!

Dear Boys and Girls,

I am so sorry that I've been too busy to
add anything to our class blog!

I promise to do better for you!
And..............I love you all!

The Ballad of the Green Berets

In honor of Veteran's Day
I would like to thank Sarah's dad, Scott Platzer,
for his heroic duty as a Green Beret.
Sarah has few memories of when her
dad was away.  She does remember trying on his hat
and that is covered her entire face.
She is very proud of her dad.
We appreciate and celebrate all the men and
women who fought for our freedom.

So proud of The Magnetic Frogs!

I can't believe our families are so generous to our school!  We'll have those new outdoor benches, picnic tables and trash cans VERY SOON!  I feel very fortunate to be a part of this wonderful school!
Keep those pledges coming.......but remember.......the lessons we learn everyday are more important than any amount of money!
I received this email yesterday:
Teachers,

As you know, today’s Community Challenge was Listen For Feedback. Listening is a huge part of playing music, AND it’s just as important in life. Sometimes student’s parents, teachers, and even their friends tell them things to help them. Students should always LISTEN so they can get better. I’m sure this lesson is a personal favorite : )

Solar Eclipse!

Isabella brought us a spectacular picture of the solar eclipse that happened last week!  The moon passed in front of the sun and blocked some of the sun's light.  Amazing!  Thanks Isabella!

The Braille Story

It's You I Like

This little boy has a disability.
He can't walk or use his arms.

Sammy has a disability.
She cannot see.

I am proud of the way you can look past
Sammy's disability
and see a cheerful friend who enjoys
singing and dancing......just like you.
